Evita,
I know this is a rather old post, but I came to read your review of Hands On Healing and started looking at the other books you've read. Do you that you are among only a handful of people I've ever encountered who knew about Helen Schucman and her colleague?

I read her biography in the early 1990s and found it utterly fascinating. Before that all I knew was that I had my copy of ACIM and the author of that huge book with the paper thin pages was "anonymous."

When I started delving into ACIM in the 1980s there were little "cottage groups" all over who would meet to discuss the book - there was no internet or anything to spread this information except by word of mouth. So, it seemed like a true miracle to me when this book appeared on the shelves of my local "New Age" bookstore! I just had to read it.

What a revelation the book was. I knew it was the "truth." That was when I knew for sure what I'd been feeling for most of my life - that formalized religion was no longer valid for me.

I'm still not able to get through the entire thing either. I think I've only read the first 200 pages. I've purchase many "digests" of the book though and have been able to read and absorb those.

I apologize for the long comment - I'm just so excited to know that you're interested in this as well.

Hi Liara - I very much agree, ACIM is such a great resource for re-thinking so many of our old paradigms and seeing how not only many of them are not serving us, but also how much some of them have just come from others and are not even our own thoughts.

ACIM is a resource that offers insights about love and fear. Marianne Williamson and other spiritual writers explore these topics in their own way. MArianne admits she has been a student of ACIM for over 30 years and she is still expanding her soul on these matters. If you have the inclination, then it is worth reading in order to rethink your own assumptions.

Hi Julie,

Oh I completely can relate to that...I was so excited when I first got the book and the first few times, I too had a hard time going through it, until the day that something pulled me into it so well that I stuck with it and finished it. It definitely is not light reading, but oh what wisdom filled reading it is!

I forgot to mention how much I agree with what you say here about forgiveness.

Many years ago, I discussed the concept with a close friend, who insisted he could forgive but never forget. I tried my best to explain that if he truly forgave, there'd be no need for "never forget" because it would be like "it" (whatever it was) hadn't ever even happened.

Forgiveness is indeed one of the best gifts we give ourselves, and it all begins with changing how we see any person or act or circumstance... When look at things from a different point of view, put ourselves in a different place or another's shoes, then forgiveness becomes so very easy. So very deep. And so very REAL. It makes what came before as if it hadn't happened. Whoosh!, gone! ;)

I tried some years ago to read this, Evita, and just couldn't get into it. Perhaps it'll be like "Atlas Shrugged" for me: on the umpteenth time, it'll click. ;) Meanwhile, I've read "around" it by means of so many others' works---Tolle, Williamson, so many others... Immensely uplifting and eye-opening. Truly, the many messages (when fully breathed in) change all our worlds, starting with our internal ones. ;)

Thank you for sharing!
